STEADY BUYING

SALE AT MATAWHERO YARDING OF OVER 3000 LAMB MARKET SOUND LESS DEMAND FOR EWES Buyers operated steadily in the store iamb market at the Matawhero saleyards to-day, and there was little alteration in values, but the demand for breeding ewes was slack, very few of the ewe buyers being present. The fat stock yardings were small and values wore much the same as recently. Store Sheep The yarding of store sheep and lambs totalled over 3000, of which I more than 2000 were offered before I lunch. The pens were smaller, while the lambs were smaller on the average than those penned in recent weeks, although the condition for the most part was good. Most of the lambs on offer were small to medium, with no really well grown sorts in the yards. Bidding was usually fairly keen for the lambs, and shorn wether lambs reached 14s 9d for a fairly well-grown line from Motu, fair-sized sorts selling from 11s to 13s Id, and small to medium from 7s 9d to 10s 9d. Woolly wether lambs, of which only two pens were offered before lunch, sold at 9s and 11s. Ewe lambs were mainly small to medium sorts and sold from 10s 7d to 13s lOd for shorn and 13s 2d for woolly, while a pen of small mixedsex lambs was knocked down at 6s lOd. Only three pens of wethers came forward, two fairly well-framed lots selling at 17s lid and 19s, with a pen of small two-tooths at 12s Bd. Most of the breeding ewes were passed in, but a pen of five-year-olds with fair frames brought 13s 3d. Fattening ewes were not sought, and a pe.n of light-framed and small ewes found a buyer at 2s.
