WIRELESS ON SHIPS

NEW CONDITIONS FIXED RADIO WATCH REQUIRED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Regulations affecting the use of wireless on merchant shipping were gazetted last night. They are the Shipping Radio Emergency Regulations 1941, and are designed to provide‘that messages are received by merchant ships in cases of emergency and ensure that an adequate wireless watch on such vessels is maintained.

They make the appointment of wireless operators on merchant ships compulsory when the hours at sea exceed eight, In addition the New Zealand Naval Board is authorised to order that wireless watches be maintained as stipulated in the regulations. Clauses are also included, providing penalties in event of nori-compliance with the regulations.. , ;
