Card Party

The first of a new series of card parties organised by the Makaraka branch of the Labour Party was held on Thursday night, when a record number of players participated. The following were the winners:— Table. Mesdames Jonasen and Owen, Messrs. Livingston and Wells. Ladies.—Mrs. J. J. Rogers. Gentlemen.—Mr. A. Dunstan. Additional Prizes.—Ladies: Mrs. Owen. Gentlemen: Mr. Thompson. Envelope.—Mr. Dick. It was agreed to hold the functions each week. Repertory Society The Gisborne Repertory Society has chosen “Short Story,” a highly-divert-ing three-act comedy by Robert Morley, for presentation in the Opera House on Monday night. Elaborate preparation and thought are being given to the general mounting and the frocking will be particularly smart. The cast will include Simeon Lee (Mr. W. J. Sinclair), Peacocke, the maid (Mrs. Basil Page), Georgina Lee (Mrs. W. A. Bowie), Miss Flower (Miss Muriel Barker), Mark Kent (Mr. McCormack), Lord Henry Bucktrout (Mr. Basil Page), Penlopc Marsh (Miss June Irvine), and Lady Bucktrout (Miss Cora Oman). Production will be in the capable hands of Miss Ellen Millar, and Mrs. W. Hamilton Irvine will be responsible for the furnishings and decorative scheme. A full orchestra will be in attendance.
