Women’s Christian Temperance Union

On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. W. E. Goffe presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, held in the Methodist schoolroom, Bright street. The devotional exercises were taken by Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. E. G. A. Reynolds read an article from The White Ribbon, the official organ of the union, dealing with the educational campaign to be launched by the W.C.T.U. executive. The cradle roll secretary, Mrs. Stockman, reported the dispatch of seven birthday cards and the enrolment of ttvo new members during the r»ast month. She also mentioned the receipt of letters of appreciation in regard to birthday cards. The treasurer’s monthly report showed a satisfactory balance. Pleasure was expressed by members at the presence of Mrs. Mackintosh after her recent illness. It was announced that the June meeting would take place at the home of Mrs. E. G. A. Reynolds, Whitaker street. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Stockman.
