SHIPPING DISPUTE STRIKE BY CLERKS (Reed. Jan. 5, 9 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 4. The shipping clerks who had been on strike for nearly eight weeks, returned to work at 1 p.m. yesterday, although no working agreement had been reached with the employers. The parties are still negotiating .under the agreement to submit the dispute to arbitration if they are unable to agree within 10 days.

The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce estimates that the strike has cost the community £25,000,000.
