CORK STREET OUTRAGE DETECTIVE KILLED (Reed. Jan. 5, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 4. Three patrolling detectives in Patrick street, the principal thoroughfare of Cork, challenged two men they knew to be members of the Irish Republican Army. One of the I.R.A. pair immediately fired, hitting Detective Officer Roche near the heart.
