INTER-HOUSE SPORTS
FIRST WAIROA DISPLAY (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Wairoa will witness the first display of the inter-house girls on Saturday, January 13, when the first Wairoa carnival will be held, under the auspices of the Wairoa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. The value of this movement is widely recognised throughout New Zealand, and its advantages as an aid to physical development for the girls residing in urban areas are unchallenged. The inter-house contests are a much-needed asset in the new order of physical fitness. There are seven Wairoa teams entered for the contests, each team comprising 13 girls. Each team will compete in drill displays, marching, ball games and novelty events, and also will be judged for their costumes. A strong contingent of Napier teams will be present to assist in the displays, but will not be competing against the Wairoa teams. Some of the exhibitions which have made the Napier contests so popular will be demonstrated by the visiting teams. Two sessions are to be held, in the afternoon at 2 o’clock, and in the evening at 7.30 o’clock.
