PRISON ESCAPEE
ADDITIONAL TERM (Pnr Press Assneifition.) AUCKLAND, this day. Pleas of guilty and an appeal for leniency were made by Raymond Patrick Letton, aged 33, a plasterer, when he was charged in the Police Court to-day with being an incorrigible togue in that he escaped from the place of lawful confinement before the expiration term for which he was committed. The police said that Letton was sentenced to 18 months' gaol in the Supreme Court last month, and on the night of November 4, escaped from his cell at the Rangipo prison camp at Tokaanu after cutting out a window, He was recaptured by n constable at Kingsland on December 24. This is the second time that Letton has escaped from custody. Letton told the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean that he tried to join the army and make a fresh start. “It was probably just as well that you did not join the army,” sold Mr. McKean. “However, I am taking into account what you .have told me. On this charge you will be sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, to be served at the expiry of the term you are now serving”
