BACONER RAISING
MARKET IN BRITAIN CHEAP FEED BARLEY AUSII?ALIAN GRA!N (lYr i'n'bs Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Special consideration had been given by the Government to the provision of reasonably cheap feed for bringing porker pigs up to baeoncr weights, said the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, yesterday. This was in line with a request from the United Kingdom Government that we ship as many baconers as possible, as there was no market for porker weights. "The Internal Marketing Division has entered into arrangements for the purchase of a large quantity of Australian barley. This supply, which will be marketed as nearly as possible to cost basis, should materially assist farmers interested in pig-raising,” said Mr. Lee Marlin. “Provided the costs of freight and other charges are not altered, the price of this barley to consumers will be 3s 4d a bushel ex wharf, a price which is considerably below this year’s figure. “I would also like to emphasise that no attempt has been made to profit from the transaction. It is expected that the first shipment will arrive early in February, when the new price will come into operation. Orders for supplies should be placed with merchants in the normal way, but I would like to stress that consumers requiring feed barley are entitled to purchase from the merchants at the above price subject to cash accompanying the order and a minimum of 10 sacks being purchased. This announcement will also be of interest to the poultry Industry.”
