LINER’S BUFFETING STORM IN ATLANTIC SHIP ALMOST FOUNDERED GALE OF 110 M.P.H.

They were injured when a gigantic wave struck ! the ship when it was combating a I 110-mile-an-hour hurricane and alj most foundered. A steward dragged to safety seven who were swept from the promenade deck and thrown under a lifeboat.
Forty were hurt when a mass of water poured into the smoking-room. Furniture and lighting fixtures and passengers were tossed in a heap. Six of the crew were engulfed on the poop, one being lost overboard. A message from' Manila states that i the British vessel New Mathilde wirelessed for assistance when she began : to founder, after heavy seas shifted I the cargo. The New Mathilde gave i her location in the China Sea, near ! Hongkong. The British China coaster i Soochow rescued the crew, who were i taken off in boats.
