NO SETTLEMENT YET

MINE ENGINE-DRIVERS

AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE (Reed. Oct. 21, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oet. 20. No results were achieved by the compulsory coal conference convened at Newcastle by Judge Drake Brockman, of the Commonwealth Arbitration Court, to discuss the threatened strike by engine-drivers in the mining industry. It seems likely that the enginedrivers will not immediately implement Hie general strike threat. It is expected, however, that, in the attempt to obain the 40-hour week, they will use the tactics of limiting production by holding stop-work meetings on a mid-week day of each week.
