INCREASE IN WAGES

BRITISH COTTON TRADE

12-1 PER CENT ADVANCE

(British Cilicia! Wireless.) Reed. noon. RUGBY, Oct. 20

Following joint negotiations between employers and operatives in the cotton industry at Manchester today an agreement was reached by which work people will receive a wage advance of 121 per cent on the current wages.

In the manufacturing section, the increase is being granted in two parts. 5 per cent on November 20 and 71 per cent on January 1, 1940. Thereafter, variations in wage rates will be based on the cost of living figure issued by the Ministry of Labour.

In the spinning branch, the advance is 12,(14 per cent on current earnings and will come into operation on October 30.
