VISTA FOR HITLER
LABOUR PEER’S VIEW
PLEAS FOR PEACE
(Reed. Oct. 21, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 20,
. In an address at Schenectady, Lord Marley, the Chief Opposition Whip in the House of Lords, who was the British Under-Secretary for War in the Labour Government of 1930-31, said: “If Herr Hitler attacks the Maginot Line, he is certain to suffer severe losses. These he cannot stand and eventually lie will be forced to ask for peace.
"If Ilerr Hitler, on the other hand, does not attack, he will be forced to answer the German people whom he promised victory.”
In an intervie v on his arrival at New York, on October 12, Lord Marley .said Britain, would bomb German industrial centres only if the Reich Air Force attacked London. “We have too great a respect ft r human lives,” Tie added, “but if Herr Hitler starts we will have to go on. You see, nobody as yet knows the possibilities of aerial warfare, and I think both sides are hesitating to Commence. There is a possibility that we will have a limited kind of war, just using armies.”
