ALASKA AS VENUE

ABSORBING REFUGEES POSSIBILITIES VIEWED ( Reed. Oct. 21. 9 a.in.) WASHINGTON. Oct. 20. The Secretary of the Interior, Mr. IT. L. It-Ices, indicated yesterday that Alaska would be suggested to the refugee committee. He gave the opinion that the resources of Alaska were sufficient to solve the refugee problem to a considerable extent. He added that the Alaskans would welcome refugees with sufficient financial backing. “It, has been said for years 'that we should save Alaska for our own people, but the dog-in-the-manger attitude of our own people will not have anything to do with it at present," he said. “There were only 30,000 whites in the entire territory.”
