Mr. E. D. Morgan, of Palmerston North, has left for England, where he will enter the -British Colonial Service. Mr. Morgan is a graduate of Auckland University College. The Rev. E. Blackwood Moore, vicar of Papatoetoe, will enter the camp at Hopuhopu to-day as Church of England chaplain. He will relieve Archdeacon Hawkins, who has been doing temporary duty at the camp pending the appointment of a permanent chaplain. The Rev. John Talbot, Napier, who will act as vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Parish, Wairoa, during the absence of the Rev. C. E. Hyde, who is serving as a chaplain with the Special New Zealand Military Force, arrived at Wairoa on Thursday evening and will conduct his first service in St. Paul’s on Sunday.—Special.
An appointment with the Air Force as educational officer to the New Plymouth aerodrome has been received by Mr. L. W. East, B'.Sc., of the staff of the Matamata District High School. Mr. East, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. East, Patutahi, was educated at Patutahi and at the Gisborne High School. He will take up his new duties next month.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Triplet- have been appointed to the charge of the S alvation Army Military Institute in Wellington. The institute has been established in the old railway social hall. Brigadier Annie Smythe, M.A., a New Zealand officer who has spent 33 years in Japan, has been appointed a lecturer at the Salvation Army court at the Centennial Exhibition.
The congratulations of the staff of the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board were extended in a practical way yesterday afternoon to Mr. S. W. Bruce, the chief clerk, who is to he married to-morrow in Wanganui to Miss Hazel Dustin. In the absence of Mr. R. P. Baigent, the engineer, Mr. F. Mathewson, made the presentation on behalf of the staff Of a chiming clock. 1-Ie referred to the splendid record of service of Mr. Bruce in ills 11 years’ connection with the board. The remarks of this speaker were confirmed by the accountant, Mr. W. Bourke, and the overseer, Mr. P. Mann, all members present also wishing Mr. Bruce happiness in the future. The recipient made a suitable reply.
