COASTAL TRADE The Margaret W. completes loading at Auckland to-day and sails for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne, arriving here on Thursday. Tlie Wainui completed tiie discharge of her southern, cargo here yesterday and sailed at 8.25 p.m. for Napier, thence Wellington and South Island ports to load again for Gisborne and Napier. The Pakura arrived at Gisborne early this morning from Napier to complete discharge of Wellington, cargo. She was to sail about noon for Lyttelton and Wellington, loading at Lyttelton on Thursday and Wellington on Friday and Saturday for Napier, Waikokopu, Gisborne and the Coast. The motor tanker Paua is due at Gisborne on Thursday from Wellington to discharge bulk benzine and ether petroleum products. The Pukeko called at Auckland today after loading cement at Portland yesterday. The ship arrives here on Thursday, and proceeds later to Napier. The Kopara. which lias completed her overhaul and survey at Auckland, is to leave to-night for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier, working this port on Thursday. LAUNCHING OF AMERICA Cabled advice has been received of the launching on Friday at the yards of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company of the United States Lines' ship America. The liner, of about 34,000 tons displacement, is the largest ( merchant vessel ever constructed in the United Slates and was built at a cost of more than £3,000,000. It has. accommodation .for 121!) passen? gers and 639 crew, its length is 723 ft and the guaranteed speed will be 22 knots. The America will join ilia Washington and Manhattan in the United Stales Lines’ weekly service from New York to Europe. Among distinctive features of the .ship are •bulbous bow, fins on the funnels to carry fumes and smoke away from the promenade decks, and full-length French windows opening at deck level.

The disposition ot the single and double roopis has received careful consideration, and they are so placed as to allow ol the most satisfactory and varied combinations when families are travelling. In addition, there arc luxury suites comprising bedroom sitting-room, vestibule, bathroom and baggage-room. The public rooms have been decorated by famous artists and comprise a large drawing-room fitted with a stage, a cinema theatre, dining saloon, restaurant, smoking-room, reading-rooms and library. There is also a swimming bath. A glassed-in promenade deck, a sports deck with clubroom and Full-sized tennis court complete the list. Children are catered for by the provision of a special dining saloon, a play-room and a promenade on tho upper deck. The amenities in the second-class include a dining saloon, a salon and smoking-room. A dining-room and lounge are provided for third-class passengers, with comfortable cabins having two or more berths. Two wireless stations, each independent of the other, are installed, one being right, forward and the other in tlie after part of the ship. Transmission and reception will be effected on short, medium and long waves.
