CRICKET BRIGHT BATTING BY M.C.C. TEAM: COUNTRY MATCH

TOOWOOMBA, December 9.— Seven more sixes were scored today in the match between the M.C.C. and a Queensland Country eleven, making a total of 14 in the two days. The Country captain, T. Allen, who has four Sheffield Shield centuries to his credit, distinguished himself by hitting two sixes in his score of 85, which also included 10 fours. He was the only real batsman in the Country team, which was even worse off for bowlers. Although D. C. S. Compton could have forced the Country team to follow on when it trailed by 208 runs on the first innings, he agreed to bat again at Allen’s request because the crowd of 5000 had come especially to see the Englishmen. None of the spectators was disappointed, because in the first half hour R. T. Simpson hit two sixes and D. S. Sheppard one in an opening partnership which quickly produced 54 runs. W. G. Parkhouse, with 58, T. G. Evans 38, and T. E. Bailey 63 not out, also contributed to the high rate of scoring. The greatest disappointment of the match, which was put on merely as an exhibition by the Englishmen, was the double failure of D. B. Close, who made a duck in each innings. The match was drawn.
