Increase Noted In Output Of Dairy Company
Although production at the Greymouth factory had fallen by a little over two tons, an increase in production at the Reefton factory had resulted in a total increase of 29.33 tons of butter over the previous year’s output. This was reported at the annual meeting of the Golden Coast Co-oper-ative Dairy Company at Greymouth. It was stated that production for the 12 months ended June 30; 1950, was 548.125 tons (1,227,8001 b compared with 518.795 tons (1,162,0921 b for the previous year. The Reefton factory make was up by 31.6 tons, while the Greymouth factory’s output had decreased by 2.3 tons. 849,8001 b For Export
Statistics compiled by the company, and included in its annual report, show that of the total yearly production, 849,8001 b of butter had been sold for export, and 307,3751 b for local consumption. The balance, 70,6251 b, will be sold for local consumption at a later date.
The report stated that, for the purposes of making creamery butter, the company had received from its suppliers a total of 2,596,2191 b of cream, which represented an increase of 143,4661 b on the previous year’s supplies. At the same time, however, the number of suppliers had dropped by five to 202. The grading percentage for the finest grade cream had also risen from 81.163 in 1948-49 to 81.366 in 1949-50. First and second grade cream, however, showed a slight drop. The amount of butterfat in cream had risen from 961,9491 b to 1,015,2201 b, the average butterfat test for the year being 39.103 per cent.
Increase In Pay-Out •
The amount of butterfat used in butter-making had been 1,007,9251 b (953,4431 b in 1948-49), while the amount of butterfat in cream sold had been 72951 b (85061 b in the previous year). Unsbld butter at the date of the balance sheet was valued at 25.50 d per lb. The estimated average pay-out per lb of butterfat for all grades is 27.895 d. This, compares favourably with the previous year’s pay-out of 26.323 d.
