U.S. “Hobos” Hold Convention

Two hundred' “hobos” arrived in New York today for their annual convention. at Rochester. They came by car, train or aeroplane, and it was a far cry from the’days when “hobos’ “rode the rods.” Most of the delegates were dressed in conventional business suits, but some sported beards in memory of their other days. The average ages were between 45 and 50. Mr Jeff Davis, the “King of the Hobos” and “Emperor of the Itinerant Knights of the World * when asked : why so many travelled first-class, said. “Some of our hobos haven’t been doing so bad.” Mr Davis said that occupations represented included a painting contractor, a rail-way-conductor. a doctor, a lawyer, and “any number of travelling salesmen.’ The group claims 1.300,000 members.— Nett Yotk, September 1.
