EMPIRE TENNIS TOURNAMENT IS A POSSIBILITY
The suggestion by the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association that a tennis tournament be held the week following the Empire Games in Auckland has met with a certain amount of favour in Empire countries, although some countries have not yet had time to come to a definite decision. When all the replies have been received, the association will decide whether to hold the tournament. A team will probably come from the West Indies, Singapore is willing to send a two or four-man team representing Malaya, and Hong Kong would send two men and two women. The Malayan and Hong Kong teams would stay for the New Zealand championships if they were held after the tournament.
Australia is interested in the proposal. and England. Rhodesia, Canada, Ceylon, and other countries eligible have yet to consider the matter. South Africa cannot send a team because the suggested dates clash with their own national championships, and Northern Trinidad and Tobago, and Wales, cannot send players.
