LENGTHY HEARING

LAND SALES COMMITTEE APPLICATION

PALMERSTON STREET HOUSE After hearing evidence for four hours, the Westland Land Sales Committee sitting at Greymouth yesterday reserved its decision on an application by N. E. Knowles to sell to W. D. Gosling for the sum of £1,875 a house he had constructed in Palmerston street. Mr M. Wallace presided, and Mr J. W. Greenslade was associated with him.

The vendor produced his costing sheet in support of the price he sought for the building, allowing £225 for the section. He valued the house at 27/6 a square foot. The vendor was examined on his addition of 10 per cent, on labour charges. Another builder, Mr. E. W. Rathbun, stated in evidence that twohouses he nominated had cost 33/1 and 30/- a square foot;

A valuer, Mr G. F. Shallcrass,.gave evidence to justify the rise in prices from 1942 to 1946.

Messrs. A. Warnes, valuer, and R. G. Drummond, State Advances supervisor, testified for the Crown, placing a price of £l5lB on the building and £2OO on the section. The latter witness put forward eight contracts submitted to the State Advances Corporation qualifying his footage price of 27/6. Other applications dealt with yesterday were as follows:— Public Trustee in estate of Dr. W. McKay to R. and F. G. McMillan, granted at £2500. R. and F. G. McMillan (Marlborough street property) to M. J. Evenden.—Granted subject to reduction from £1675 to £1490. M. J. Evenden (Murray street property) to R. Thomas. —Granted subject to reduction from £950 to £9OO. Ada Wilson to H. T. Buchanan (High street property).—Granted subject to a reduction from £l2OO to £lO3O.
