Ministerial. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) arrived at Auckland this morning prior to opening the Labour election campaign with an address in the Town Hall to-night. He spent a quiet morning at his hotel in preparation for his speech and in attending to election details. —(P.A.)

I Mr. H. Hamer, of Kumara, is a patient at the Grey Hospital. Mr. T. W. Hartley, of Wellington, has arrived in Greymouth on transfer to the position of assistant supervisor, clerical branch, Chief Post Office. Mr. H. C. Rowe, of Fetone, . and formerly of Greymouth and Hokitika, has been transferred to the position of Chief Postmaster at Westport. Commander Morgan Slayton, U.S.N., arrived in New Zealand in the Monterey yesterday to take up his appointment as Naval Attache and Attache for Air with the. American Legation in New Zealand, in succession to Commander V. E. Creighton. Commander Slayton was in command of two United States destroyers during the war in the Pacific. —IP.A.) Mr. John S. Service, of the United States Foreign Service, arrived'at Auckland in the Monterey yesterday to take up his position as secretary of the American Legation in Wellington. Mr. Service has been in the diplomatic service for 13 years, most of which was spent in China. He was also in Japan, where his department acted .as diplomatic adviser to General MacArthur, with representatives on the Allied Control Council. Mr. Service was accompanied by his wife and three children. —(P.A.) The Rev. H. W. Newell, secretary of the National Council of Churches of Nev; Zealand, has been appointed assistant general secretary of the World Council of Churches. Mr. Newell will be attached to the world council’s headquarters in Geneva, and will leave New Zealand to take up his appointment early next year. Born in Samoa, Mr. Newell went to England when a young boy, and was educated at Cambridge University. He served as a chaplain in the 1914-18 war, aftei’ which he took .an appointment as principal of a high school in India. Mr. Newell came to New Zealand in 1930, and was engaged in ministerial duties in Wellington until his appointment as secretary. of the National Council of Churches of New Zealand in February, 1943.
