OBITUARY Mr. W. S. Horrocks

Mr. William Sydney Horrocks, who ..died recently, was licensee of the Tasman Hotel, Port Nelson, for many years. He was born at Melbourne in 1875 and educated at King’s and Scotch Colleges, Melbourne. Mr. Horrocks took up journalism and joined the staff or the West Australian Daily Mail at Perth. He remained with that paper ror a number of years and afterwards came to New Zealand, living in Wellington for some years before transferring to Nelson about 30 years ago to become licensee of the Tasman Hotel. He was known throughout New Zealand for his exemplary conduct in the licensing tuSClc At the time of his death he was a member of the Provincial Council ol the Licensing Trade and president of the Nelson Licensed Victuallers’ Association.

Mr. G. E. McLeod The death occurred at Hokitika on Friday last of Mr George Edward McLeod, aged 75. He leaves one sister, Mrs J. Nuttall, Blackball; one brother, Mr J. McLeod, Southland. The late Mrs Agnes Lynch, of Greymouth, was also a sister. The funeral took place at Hokitika yesterday.

Mr. M. Duff-Fyfe The death occurred suddenly at Sydney, last evening, of Mr. Malcolm JDuff-Fyfe, aged 50 years. Mr. Duff-Fyfe was well known on the West Coast which he visited frequently about 17 years ago as representative for John Burns and Co. Ltd., prior to the opening of a district branch at Greymouth. He married Miss Sarah Stewart, youngest daughter of Mr. J. and the late Mrs. Stewart, of Kumara. He had resided in Sydney for the past 13 years. He served in the first World War and again with the Australian forces in the Islands in the recent conflict. He is survived by his wife, who resides at Rose Bay, Sydney and three daughters. .
