JAPANESE DIET
NOW STATE’S SUPREME ORGAN (Rec. 9.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, September 15. General MacArthur, reporting on the occupation of Japan during July, says the Japanese are beginning to look on the Diet, once regarded as an impotent debating society, as the state’s supreme organ. The attendance in the public galleries of the House of Representatives is constantly growing. The Government has nearly completed its programme of ousting all militaristic and ultra-nationalist elements from public offices. A good situation has been reached. The coal shortage is the most vital factor retarding progress in all fields of Japanese industry.
