Mr. A. E, Mansford has been selected by ballot to be the National Party’s candidate for the Palmerston North seat. —(P.A.) Mr. A. J. Campbell, lecturer in history at the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College' for many years, will leave in about a fortnight for Great Britain on a Carnegie Corporation Fellowship. He is expected to be away for about one year. A motion of sympathy with Cr. J. Ryall M.L.C., of Barrytown, who is a patient in Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, where he is to undergo an operation, was carried at this morning’s meeting of the Grey County Council. Mr. L. W. Skerton, clerk, State Mines Department, Dunollie, left this morning on transfer to Christchurch. He was given a farewell last evening by fellow members of the staff, on whose behalf the chief clerk, Mr. W. Coumbe, made a presentation of a set of brushes. Mrs K. Swinburn, who has -been on the staff of the Public Works Department at Greymouth for nearly three years has resigned. On behalf of fellow employees, Mr. J. A. Shannon, chief clerk, yesterday presented her with an electric toaster and an envelope containing a sum of money. Mr. George Guy, who has been, lecturer in geography at the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College since 1938, left yesterday to take up an appointment as a post-pnmary schools’ inspector with headquarters in Wellington. He will be succeeded by Mr. L. L. Pownall, of the staff of the Christchurch Boys’ High School. „ , Nurse Jean Williams, of the Christ** church Hospital, was one of the successful candidates at the recent State final examination for nurses. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. A. G. Williams, headmaster of the Greraldine District High School and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.
