ASSOCIATION Strong Representative Team

The interest of Association football supporters on Saturday centred on the trial games at Taylorville for the purpose of selecting the representative team to play Canterbury on August 10. The team chosen is a good one, though one or two players may have been unfortunate to miss selection. Howden must have received every consideration when the full-backs, Bailey (Blackball) and Armstrong (Runanga) were chosen. Boilette, the dashing Greymouth goalkeeper, who was chosen for the representative side, in the closing minutes of the game against Blackball, dived at the feet of a Blackball player and, in saving what would have been a certain goal, broke two fingers. His place, it is understood, will be taken by Closs, of Runanga.

Capable Halves. The half-back positions are in capable hands and the Canterbury forwards will have to be at their best to gain the ascendancy over this trio. Nuttall, Bowman and Lee will certainly see that the Coast forwards get plenty of openings. Clever Centre-Forward.

Phillip was the only possible choice for centre-forward on Saturday’s trial. He is quick and Cleveland can also score goals when opportunity offers. R. Scott, ex-New Zealand representative, occupies the inside left position and his scheming and clever footwork will get results. Dando was the best outside left on trial game form, and as he is a natural left-footer and a good allround player, the left wing looks a strong one. Clark and Ryan should combine well on the right wing and the team should be capable of extending Canterbury.

Jottings. Graham, of Taylorville, must have run A. Clark very close for the outside right berth in the representative team.

Cruse, of -Taylorville, played another good game on Saturday and must have come under the eye of the selectors.'

Hoggarth (Taylorville) and Gunn (GreymoUth) scored five goals on Saturday. Dixon, of Taylorville, was shaping well at half-back until an injury became too much <>r a handieai,).
