LATE NEWS BUS DAMAGED BY FIRE

MISHAP AT KAIATA

A 29 seater Railway Road Service bus caught fire near Kaiata this afternoon, and was extensively damaged. Repairs, it is considered will cost in the , vicinity of £2OO.

The bus was. returning empty from Taylorville to Greymouth at about 1.45, when it broke down near, Kaiata, a. mechanical defect having developed. A mechanic was dispatched from Greymouth to effect repairs, but while he was so engaged, the engine backfired and fire broke out. The fire quickly spread from the engine to the front part of the bus and* this was fairly extensively damaged. The interior of the bus also suffered some damage, but to a lesser degree. The bus was towed to Greymouth, and will be out of commission for two to three weeks.
