RETURNED TO DUTCH

SCHOONER AT THURSDAY

ISLAND

(Rec. 2.35 p.m.) CANBERRA, July 31

The schooner which put into Thursday Island on July 22 with nine Indonesians aboard was found to be identical with the Dutch Government vessel Lily, missing from Merauke, New Guinea, said the acting Minister of External Affairs, Mr. Makin. It was handed back to the Dutch authorities. Action against the crew now ashore at Thursday Island was being considered. Mr. Makin said the real identity of the schooner had been discovered after investigation into the circumstances in which she left the Netherlands East Indies. The Netherlands News Agency reports that the leader of the crew, who was connected with the extremists in Java, was endeavouring to communicate with Australian Communists at Brisbane.
