LACK OF SHIPPING

.PRODUCE ACCUMULATES IN SOUTHLAND north island cargo (PA.) INVERCARGILL, July 30. Because of lack of shipping more than 50,000 sacks of farmers’ produce for North Island centres have accumulated in Invercargill grain stores and on farms. Of this total about 17,000 sacks and about 150 tons of general cargo are destined for Wanganui. A representative meeting in Invercargill decided to send an urgent telegram to the Prime Ministei (Mi. Fraser) asking for the reinstatement of the Bluff-Wanganui shipping service in an effort to make a clearance. At one stage more than 70,000 sacks including wheat, oats, seeds, and potatoes, were awaiting shipment, but it is expected that the Waimanno, Waihemo, and Waiana, two of which are loading at Bluff now, will take about 19,000 sacks for North Island centres other than Wanganui. The last loading at Bluff for Wanganui before the termination of the service was on June 6, and the clearance of the sacks and general cargo will depend on the outcome of the present representations. It is considered that the cargo at present held for Wanganui is equivalent to two full ship loads.
