Britain Accepts American i Plan for Germany

WILL RUSSIA STAND OUT? (Recd. 10.50 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 29. The State Department announced to-day that Britain had accepted in principle the United States proposal to join the United States zone of occupation in Germany with any other zones for the purpose of treating the zones so joined as an economic unit. The State Department said it welcomed the announcement . as the first step towards easing the heavy financial burden resting on the two occupying Powers and relieving the-distress resulting from Germany’s division into four relatively water- , tight compartments. The State Department expressed the hope that other occupying Powers would find it possible to give an equally favourable response. It added that in the judgment of the United States Government the greatest general advantage would accrue from prompt measures to achieve economic unity in Germany as prescribed by the Potsdam agreement.
