OBITUARY Professor James Park

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, July 29. The death occurred at Oamaru this morning of Professor James Park, Emeritus Professor of Mining at the University of Otago, and a world-famed metallurgist and geologist. He was for 30 years director of the Otago School of Mines. The early period of his office was marked by years of great difficulties, during which the school struggled for its very existence, but it developed a reputation in many parts of the globe long before Professor Park retired. He was the father of Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park, who recently visited New Zealand. Mr. William Brock (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. A former headmaster of the Richmond School and a chief inspector of schools in Canterbury and Westland, Mr William Brock died on Sunday at the age of 86. For 49 years Mr Brock was actively connected with the teaching profession, his career in education commencing when he went to the Normal School as a pupil teacher in 1876, and was brought to a close with his retirement in 1925, when Mr Murdoch McLeod succeeded him. In 1908, Mr Brock became a school inspector, and four years later was appointed chief inspector of primary schools in the province.
