GROUP PRACTICE

MINISTER’S REPLY TO B.M.A.

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 30. In view of the fact that a resolution passed by a meeting of general practitioners in the Hutt also by the council of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association regarding housing for doctors had been made available to the press, the Minister of Health (Mr. Nordmeyer) to-day released the text of his reply to the general secretary of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association. • The Minister, in his reply, said: “I regret that the- official attitude of your body does not appear to be disposed towards the project which the Government contemplates, namely, the provision of group practice in the new housing areas of the Hutt Valley. You will be aware, of course, that residents in these areas by a largely signed and almost unanimous petition, have requested that a service of this type should be provided, incorporating both preventive and curative medicine.

‘T had hoped your association would have been happy to co-operate in a venture of this kind, and I regret, therefore, that the terms of the resolution indicate that no advance on the existing methods of practice is contemplated by your association.”
