PICTON BURGLARY

ALL STOLEN MONEY RECOVERED

(P.A.) BLENHEIM, July 28. The office of the Federal Hotel at Picton was entered during the weekend, and £264 was stolen. Police investigations resulted in a search of the forecastle of the coastal steamer Hauturu, where all of the stolen money was recovered. Two members of the ship’s crew, Able Seaman Michael Stephen Walker, aged 30, and Acting-Able Seaman Neil. Edward Davey, aged 19, were arrested, and were charged before J’sP. to-day. They were remanded till to-morrow.

The Hauturu, which had been loading for Onehunga, was due to sail on Friday, but was delayed through, a fire which occurred in the hold on Friday night.
