HOCKEY Second Consecutive Loss to Pacific
Pacific suffered its second successive defeat on Saturday when the local hockey competition for the Burnett White "Cup was continued. The strong attack set up by the Greymouth team forced Pacific into errors and Greymouth’s victory was well earned. Marist defeated Cobden after a close struggle and Cobden Rangeis proved too strong for "Wheelmen. Detailed results were as follows: — Greymouth 4, Pacific 2; Marist 1, Cobden nil; Cobden Rangers 5, Wheelmen nil.
Canterbury Defeats Manawatu (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. Canterbury retained the New Zealand Hockey Challenge "Shield on Saturday when its representatives defeated Manawatu by 6 goals to 1. The ground, though soft, was in lair order. About 1500 spectators were treated to some clever stick play and clever passing, especially by the Canterbury forwards, a feature of the game that was lacking in the visitors vangua rd.
