CAMP ORANJE

FUTURE DISCUSSED AT

CONFERENCE

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 29. Little progress was made at a conference this morning attended by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and representatives of the Auckland Returned Services’ Association and the Auckland Hockey Association to discuss again the future of Camp Oranje, the issue being whether the property should revert to the Hockey Association or be used for transit housing accommodation for ex-ser-vicemen’s families. This morning’s discussion revealed that the Hockey Association and the City Council were opposed to the transit housing proposal. On the City Council’s.behalf it was stated that it had an alternative proposal to transfer the Camp Oranje buildings to a site in another suburb within 16 days. This morning’s conference was very short and it was announced that there would be a further conference later to-day, when the Mayor and members of the City Council would be present.
