WOMAN SHOTDEAD.

FATHER ARRESTED. ON MURDER CHARGE

TRAGEDY AT KAIAPOI (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. Soon after 9 o’clock yesterday morning Beryl Denise Stone, a single woman, aged 30, was shot at the residence of her brother-in-law, Mr. John Edward Doran, Dale street, Kaiapoi. The woman’s father, Geoffrey James Stone, aged 54, a dairy farmer, living at Woodend, was later arrested and charged with murder. Superintendent H. Scott, Sub-In-spector T. Holmes, and Constable C. Rundle, of the Central Police Station, who were joined by Constables Warren and Shepherd, of Kaiapoi, visited Doran’s home, and after' making inquiries arrested Stone and charged him with -the murder of Beryl Stone. Mr. Raymond Ferner, Coroner, also went to Kaiapoi, and opened an inquest into the death i of the woman. After evidence of identification had been given the inquest was adjourned sine die. The body was moved to the Christchurch Public Hospital morgue, where an examination will be held.
