Mr. L. W. Skerton, clerk, State Mines Department, Dunollie, has received notice of his transfer to a similar position at Christchurch. He will leave Greymouth on Thursday. Flying Officer N. A. Wickes, D.F.C., of Kumara Junction, has been promoted to the rank of flight lieutenant. He is at present engaged on Transport Command’s England-India service. On his way back to Fiji, after leading the Fijian contingent in the victory parade, Rata Sir Lala Sukuna, K. one of the most outstanding figures in the Pacific Islands, arrived in Auckland on Saturday by flyingboat from Sydney. He holds the rank of lieutenant-colonel and is a scholar, administrator, and orator, and head of the Native Office in Fiji. He is by right a paramount chief. —(P.A.) The appointment of Mr. Edward Brown, of Wellington, to the position of chief Inspector of machinery and chief surveyor of ships for the Marine Department is announced. He succeeds Mr. G, E. Breeze, who retired recently. Mr. V. Boivin, assistant office engineer, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Brown as office engineer at the head office, Wellington and Mr. R. N.
