OBITUARY Mr. G. B. Mann

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 29. The death of Mr. George Bernard Mann, manager of George Syme and Company, Limited, timber merchants, of Hawera, occurred suddenly yesterday. He was chairman of the Management Committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union, and of the southern division of the Taranaki Cricket Association, and past president of the association. She was famous for her experimental method of writing, in which sentence construction wejs largely discarded in favour of a repetitive aggregation of words and phrases. Her characteristic work has been admired by some and pronounced unintelligible by others; but is acknowledged to have been not without influence on contemporary styles in fiction.

During the First World War she worked for the care of French wounded, and at the end of the war was decorated by the French Government. She lectured at Cambridge and at Oxford in 1925 and 1936.
