BRITISH FIRMS’ DENIAL. (N.Z.P.A. Spc’eial Correspondent) (Rec. 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, July 25, A New Zealand Parliamentary statement, extracts of which were cabled to England, to the effect that the British Government and the British tyre industrj' as a whole were consulted concerning®their views in connection with a proposal to licence the manufacture of motor tyres in the Dominion has been received with surprise in certain quarters here. A statement has been made by representatives of the foliowin?,’ companies: Avon India Rubber, John Bull Rubber, Henley Tyre and Rubber, North British Rubber and Michelin Tyres: “We, as manufacturers representative of the British tyre industrty, affirm that neither individually nor collectively have we been approached since the signing of the 1939 White Paper by anyone on behalf of the New’ Zealand Government concerning the British tyre industry for our views on the subject of a proposal to manufacture motor vehicle tyres in the Dominion. Such approach may have been made to some other manufacturer on a confidential basis, but we could have had no cognisance of this, and we categorically deny any knowledge of any consultation with British tyre interests as a whole.”
