T he Greek Government has banned all public gatherings and ordered other measures to prevent disorders, on the announcement of the British election results, report correspondents at Athens. Right Wing elements ments arc reported to be pleased and the Left Wing disappointed by the. publication in a newspaper at Acropolis of an interview with Mr. Bevin. who said the British Cabinet was unanimously in favour of intervention in Greece after incidents in December, 1944, Mr. Bevin is reported to have personally expressed the opinion that a military government was necessary in Greece immediately after the liberation. The Exchange Telegraph Ageency’s correspondent says the attempt by Sofianopoulos to overthrow- the Voulgaris Government by resignation of the Foreign Ministry is regarded as having tailed. The Foreign Affairs Committee is expected to demand an explanation of his actions.
