BELGIAN CRISIS

LEOPOLD AS_ DEFEATIST BRUSSELS, July 25. M. Spaak, speaking in a debate read a memorandum written by M. Pierlot, concerning the last, interview with King Leopold befori the Belgian collapse, in which Pierlot tried to persuade the King to go to England. He declared Leopold replied: “The Allied cause is lost. I have a feeling that if I leave I shall never return to Belgium.” (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) , V BRUSSELS, July 2a. M. Spaak opened the resumed Chamber of Deputies debate on'the King’s actions, with a bitter attack on King Leopold: “We were shocked to hear from the King that we had no obligation at all to our Allies and that so .far as Belgium was concerned in 1940 the war was finished, said M. Spaak. “I am glad to say that the Belgium Government stuck to its principles.” He was sorry that King Leopold never admitted he had made a mistake, that he visited Berchtesgaden to chat to Hitler and sent congratulatory telegrams to Flitter and the King of Italy. Those things could not be explained away.
