In a professional preliminary, Eric O’Neill (Auckland). list 51b, defeated Johnny Kitchen (Auckland), list Gib. on points at the end of six. rounds. BOLGER DEFEATS WRIGHT. DUNEDIN, July 23. In the hardest fight of the local season, Laurie Bolger (Mataura). lOst 6.11 b, outpointed Ken Wright (Timaru), lOst 6Jib, in a professional welter-weight contest over 12 threeminute rounds at the Town Hall tonight. The attendance numbered over 3000. Wright had the better of the first two rounds, but Bolger launched a barrage of punches in the third and fourth rounds, in each of which Wright was down for counts of eight. Wright made a great recovery, but Bolger’s body punching slowed him down, and in the closing rounds Bolger dealt out fairly heavy punishment, though Wright was still fighting back at the end. STOCK SEEKING PATRICK (Rec. 1.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 24. Al Stock, 28 years old, New Zealand lightweight boxer, who is at present in Sydney, has an ambition to meet the Australian champion, Vic Patrick. “Having beaten all the lightweights, I had to meet welterweights in New Zealand, and all my matches this year have been in that division, so I decided to come to Australia,” said Stock. “I had a win, a loss, and a draw against Vic Caltaux.” Stock was recently discharged after serving four years with the New Zealand Army. He recently knocked out the Allies’ Pacific champion, Billy Strauss, in the seventh round, and another American champion in the first round. His first match m Sydney will be against Reg. Tozer on August 11.
