REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, Dec. 29. Planting of seed for the raising of young trees has for this season, been completed on the area of land situated about one mile from Reefton, which has been acquired for a State Forest Nursery. The work was commenced six weeks ago, and nine different kinds of exotic tree seed has been planted in beds covering almost an acre. Inspection of the beds this weeks shows, that in spite of a wet season, growth has come away well, and seedlings have in some’ cases reached a height of three inches. " One hundred and fifteen points of rain fell at Reefton for 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Thursday, and the most of this fall occurred after 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, when the district was visited by an electrical storm, with a gale of wind. Private V. L. Ford, 2nd N.Z.E.F., who has been spending leave with his parents, has left on return to camp.
Mr. R. Honey (Kaitangata) is visiting Reefton. Misses D. and Z. Blackmore are spending a holiday with their mother, Mrs. C. J. Blackmore, Reefton. Corporal J. Switzer and Mrs. Switzer are visiting Reefton.
