During a severe thunderstorm in the Heriot district this afternoon,' a farm hand employed on Dr. J. T. Bowie’s farm at Edievale was struck in the face by a flash of lightning and killed instantaneously. He was Alfred Roberts, aged 55, married, of Heriot. FAMILY EVICTED. CHRISTCHURCH, December 28. Temporary accommodation in an Army cookhouse at the Pleasant Point Domain was found for a man and his wife and their six children, evicted on Christmas Eve, by the Mayor (Mi. Andrews) who said the landlord had not recognised the family as tenants, but their eviction on Christmas Eve had presented a difficult problem. A neighbour was able to let them have one room that night, but could not let them continue to occupy it. Mr. Andrews said he was told oi the family’s predicament on Christmas Day.' It was impossible to get any normal form of accommodation, so he took the responsibility of permitting them to occupy the cookhouse at a camp on city property which the Army had vacated. All the huts had been removed from the domain, but fhe temporary home would serve in the meantime. He understood that the family had been promised a State house within a month. The oldest oi the six children is 13 years, and the youngest, a cripple, two years old.
