RUSSIANS RAID JASSY RUGBY, June 6. On Monday night Soviet long-range aircraft carried out a massed raid on railway junctions and military targets in the Jassy area, states a Soviet communique. Ninety fires broke out, followed by powerful explosions. All the Soviet planes returned. During Tuesday in the area north-west and north of Jassy Soviet troops successfully repelled all enemy tank and infantry attacks. On Monday in this area 49 German tanks were destroyed or disabled and 142 enemy planes shot down. No changes are reported from the other sectors. On Monday on all fronts, 148 enemy planes were shot down. AMERICAN BOMBERS T ~RUGBY, June 6. The first combat mission of United States bombers based in the Soviet Union coincided with the opening of the invasion operations from England. „All the American bombers returned after a successful bombing of Galatz aerodrome. A correspondent quotes pilots as follows: “We are jubilant I over a good day’s work.” The news of the invasion was received on the bombers’ radios.
