NEARLY £6.’ MILLIONS

WELLINGTON, May 14. The total of subscriptions to the Liberty Loan up to the close of business yesterday was £6,238,990, made up as follows: Two and a-half per cent. £2,300,180. Three per cent., £3,938,810. Yesterday’s lodgments included the Norwich Union Life Insurance £25.000, the General Accident Assurance Corporation £5OOO, and many other large subscriptions. SOUTHLAND INVESTMENTS INVERCARGILL, May 13. The chairman ,»f the Invercargill Savings Bank (Mr. W. A. Ott) announced to-day that the bank would invest a further £30,000 in the Liberty Loan, making its total contribution £130,000. The Permanent Building Society has decided to invest £2OOO. This brings Southland’s total to nearly £200,000, of £500,000 required by June 2.
