MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.

The West Coast Rugby Union’s Management Committee met last evening, there being present: Messrs J. Guy (acting-chairman), F. Eggleton, A. Dowgray, T. Mclntosh, T. O’Donnell, M. Olsen, F. W. Baillie, T. P. Ryan, and O. McLean (secretary). The West Coast Rugby League forwarded four complimentary tickets for the West Coast-Inangahua match, and wished the Union success in its forthcoming Shield match. —It was decided to reciprocate with tickets for the Seddon Shield match. The New Zealand Union advised that on account of the special circumstances it had been decided to reinstate P. J. Duffy. . The secretary of the Magpies Club wrote in regard to the Teen case, stating that neither he nor Mr. Sneddon (an official of the club) had any knowledge of . Teen’s playing League.—lt was decided to ask Teen, through the Magpies Club, for an explanation. The Nelson Union wrote expressing sympathy with the Union in the death of Mr. Steel, and asking the Coast Union to convey the Nelson Union’s condolences to Mrs. Steel. The appointment of Mr. J. H. Martin as manager of the West Coast schools’ team to travel to Blenheim was approved. Mr. Baillie stated that all arrangements had been made. Mr. Mclntosh s report on the Coast-Buller match at Westport was received. He stated that it was a typical Coast-Buller match, with tight play among the forwards. It was one of the worst of Coast-Buller matches. The back play was terribly poor, and the game ended up in a scramble. Unfortunately, the referee had seen fit to order off the West Coast captain, King, and that upset the Coast boys. On the motion of Mr. Mclntosh, it was decided to thank the Buller Union, and especially Mr. McEnaney, for the hospitality extended the West Coast team in Westport, and to congratulate Buller on their victory. On the motion, of Messrs Jamieson and Dowgray, it was resolved that the ordering-off of R. R. King be dealt with in committee. The following motion was announced: “That this Union regrets the unconstitutional action of the Buller Union in holding an inquiry regarding King’s or-dering-off, before referring same to this Union, in terms of Laws 10 and 34, and resolves that, owing to the publicity already given to the incident before a constitutional inquiry had been held, this Union is of opinion that the player has been sufficiently punished, and that no further action be taken.” It .was decided that all primary school children assemble at the Recreation Ground at 2.15 p.m., on Saturday, and that, they be admitted free to the Seddon Shield match. Mr. Dowgray was deputed to arrange ’for supervision. Mr. M. Olsen was appointed manager of the West Coast team for Saturday, R.. R. King captain, and S. Hendry vice-captain. It was resolved that the team assemble at the Park Hotel at 2 p.m. Messrs Baillie, Jamieson and Ryan were appointed to endeavour to arrange a match between West Coast and Air Force (Wigram) teams at Hokitika on September 6. It was decided that all Greymouth members of the West Coast team train at the Cobden gymnasium on Thursday evening.

FIXTURES. The following fixtures were arranged for Saturday next:—Seddon Shield match: West Coast v. Golden Bay-Motueka, No. 1 ground, 3 p.m. _ ... Third grade: Cobden v. Celtic, 1.30 p.m. (J. Minchin).

GOLDEN BAY TEAM. The team selected to represent Golden Bay-Motueka m their match against West Coast for the Seddon Shield at Greymouth on Saturday, is as follows: — Full-back: H. Riley. Three-quarters: V. Clouston, A. Taylor, I. Hickmott. Five-eighths: J. Nicholson, B. A. Killeen (captain). Half-back: F. Biggs. Forwards: Back row, R. Ropata, middle row, D. Ward (vice-captain), R. Wigzell, J. Cederman R. Brown; front row, P. Wratt, J. Flowers, D. Emergencies: Backs, D. Dennett, N. Trewavas; forwards, R. Cederman, K. Farrell. BULLER AND MARLBOROUGH. An offer was received from the Marlborough Rugby Union to pay the travelling expenses of a Buller team to visit Marlborough, on either August 16 or 23, at a meeting of the. Buller Rugby management committee. It was pointed out that this offer would involve the union in an expenditure of about £3O for accommodation. The trip would be of value to players, but would not warrant an expenditure of £3O. It was suggested that such a trip would be beneficial to the Buller team before its challenge match for the Seddon Shield, if suitable finance could be arranged. Mr F. Woodward said that he did not object to a team being sent to Marlborough, but at the last meeting the commitee had refused complimentary tickets to players, and- he did not see why £3O should be spent on sending a team on what he termed “a pleasure” trip to Marlborough. He thought Marlborough should pay all expenses as they would beneffi most. Mr S. Stewart said that the union had earlier in the season refused to send a junior team to Greymouth when the cost for that trip would have been only £l5. . , It was decided to inform the Mailborough Union that the Buller Union would pay assembly costs and £lO towards the other expenses of a team to visit Marlborough. Mr Woodward moved an amendment that Buller pay none of the expenses. The amendment was lost.

LINWOOD COACH. CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. The suspension of the coach of tne Linwood Rugby Club’s senior team for playing an unreinstated League player in his team, has now been lifted, the New Zealand Rugby Union having approved of the Canterbiuw Union’s action in suspending the offH cial temporarily, and severely reprimanding him. , At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Union a letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Union advising that, after giving the matter full consideration, the Committee _ had endorsed the Canterbury Unions action in suspending the club coach and administering a severe reprimand, and had decided that no action be taken against the Linwood Club. Mr E. V. Phillips (president): This means that the coach is severely reprimanded, and is now reinstated.
