BRITAIN AND PEACE

“PATENT ABSURDITY.” WASHINGTON. August 12. Mr Cordell Hull, at the Press Conference, was asked about a statement made to the Press by Representative Shafer, who alleged Lord Beaverbrook had declared recently that unless the United States got troops into the war within a month, Britain would sue for peace, Mr Shafer declined to disclose the source of this allegation or to elaborate thereon Mr Hull said he did not feel called upon to sneak for Lord Beaverbrook, especially oh something which was a patent absurdity on its face.
