[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WOMAN CHARGED. AUCKLAND, December 6. Phyllis Olive Barnett, aged 31, a clerk, was charged in the Magistrate s Court that, on December 6, 1939, she stole the sum of £BOO belonging to Mary Cochran Baird and others. The police obtained a remand until December 12. Bail was allowed in accused’s own surety of £4OO and two others of £2OO each. DEMOCRATIC LABOUR WELLINGTON, December 6. In connection with the resignation of the Treasurer of the Democratic Labour Party, Mr. A. H. Carman, which was announced yesterday, the following statement has been issued by the Secretary of the Party, Mr. F. M. Earl: “It is quite correct that Mr. Carman has resigned as Treasurer of the Democratic Labour Party. Apart from any other reasons, Mr. Carman did not see his way clear to endorse the Party’s war attitude. While respecting sincere pacific sentiments, the Democratic Labour Party is most definitely concerned with the necessity for supporting New Zealand’s war effort against Nazism and Fascism.
