WELLINGTON, December 7. The silver medal for gallantry of the Boy Scouts’ Association has been awarded to Scout lan Peach (Taumarunui). It is announced that the Dominion Chief Scout, Lord Galway, has approved the award. Peach, who is aged 14, during floods in the King Country in February, plunged into the Wanganui River, and swam with a lifeline 150 yards, to a man in a very dangerous position. The boy succeeded in reaching him and made fast the line and returned safely along it, accompanied by the man he had saved. .. Making the recommendation for the award, Scout officials pointed out that to swim 150 yards in a flooded river was no mean feat, even for a grown man. The Cornwell decoration, awarded in October, to Scout Stanley Cole, Wellington, was presented to him in the presence of Scout leaders, by the Governor-General, at Government House.
